My LCD screen on my faithful little IBOOK went blank yesterday night. I thought it was a simple software crash that a reboot of the computer would fix. But when I rebooted the machine, the screen was still blank. The sight of a blank screen disgusted me. I felt like crying and pucking over my IBOOK. It wasn’t a software problem; there was something wrong with the hardware. My IBOOK that I bought one and half years ago now had no screen.
It was 2:00 am but whenever there is a broken computer I cannot go to sleep. So I stayed awake in an attempt to fix this horrible problem. I did some research on the Internet, and it looks like this was a relatively a common problem. There were several solutions to this problem including replacing the Logic Board on the LCD screen, or replacing the connecting cables located on the hinge of the Ibook. These parts would cost me about $150 on the internet, and there was no guarantee that replacing these parts would fix the problems. The more research I did, the more it started to look like I needed a new Laptop.
Just as I was about to lose hope and go sleep, I noticed a website indicating that it might be a lose Graphic Processor Unit, that might be causing the blank LCD. All I would need to do to fix this problem would be to wedge a piece of tape between the GPU and the casing. I was skeptical of this solution, but I thought it was worth a try.
So I opened the IBOOK, and wedged three pennies between the GPU and the casing. I decided to use pennies instead of tape because I was afraid that the tape would melt. To my shocking surprised, this simple solution worked!! And now I’m typing this BLOG entry using my newly repaired IBOOK!! Woohoo!!! Success is beautiful.
